Joseph grew up in Barrie, Ontario. He studied political science at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, before attending Queen’s Law School. He was called to the bar in 2006.
Joseph joined Viner Kennedy in May 2011 after having spent five years as an Assistant Crown Attorney prosecuting all types of Criminal Code offences, from theft to murder. Having conducted countless trials in both the provincial and superior courts, he recently served as one of four prosecutors for one of Canada’s most notorious murder cases. He brings his advocacy experience to our litigation, construction and family law departments and, since his arrival, has already built a busy practice.
Joseph’s litigation practice includes advocacy work on behalf of individual and corporate clients across Southeastern Ontario. He represents clients in civil, corporate/commercial, and construction and property litigation, including in mediation/arbitration, trials and appeals. His work covers:
- shareholder disputes and oppression remedies;
- partnership disputes;
- insurance coverage disputes;
- construction and real property disputes;
- wrongful dismissal and employment litigation;
- the defence of regulatory and other offences; and
- tax disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency.
For some of Joseph’s commentary on issues and cases relevant to these areas, please see his blog, the Civil Litigator.
In family law, Joseph advises on the breakdown of marriage or common-law partnerships, including divorce, property division, spousal and child support, and custody and access. He also represents clients in estate litigation, including in areas that relate to family law, such as dependant support applications.
