Joseph grew up in Barrie, Ontario. He studied political science at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, before attending Queen’s Law School. He was called to the bar in 2006.
Joseph joined Viner Kennedy in May 2011 after having spent five years as an Assistant Crown Attorney in Toronto and Belleville prosecuting all types of Criminal Code offences, from theft to murder. Having conducted countless trials in both the provincial and superior courts, he also served as one of four prosecutors for one of Canada’s most notorious murder cases. He brings his advocacy experience to our litigation department and, since his arrival, has already built a busy practice.
Joseph’s litigation practice includes advocacy work on behalf of clients across Southeastern Ontario. He represents clients at trials, tribunals, appeals and in mediation/arbitration hearings. His work covers:
- The defence of all criminal, quasi-criminal and regulatory offences, and professional misconduct allegations, for both individuals and corporations. These include, for example, all offences under the Criminal Code and other federal legislation, including the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Copyright Act, and the Customs Act; and provincial legislation, including the Highway Traffic Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Liquor License Act;
- Employment-related litigation with an emphasis on wrongful dismissals in the context of both small local businesses and large corporations; and,
- Commercial, construction and insurance-related disputes, including professional liability, fire and property insurance claims.
